IQUNIX Ghost in the Shell EV63 Keyboard Review
I have used a lot of keyboards in the last few years. So much so that I have an actual stack of them in my office. I could switch them out every so often if I wanted to, but since I got my hands on the IQUNIX EV63, I haven’t used another keyboard outside of reviews. It has become my everyday keyboard for work, for writing, and everything else I could ever use a keyboard for. Even without a numpad, it is still by far the best keyboard I have ever used.
The specific version of the IQUNIX EV63 that I am using is their blue Ghost in the Shell collab. A few of my other keyboards are franchise tie-ins, but none come close to this. It’s not just a set of keys with a character printed on them and matching colors; it’s integral to the board’s overall design. The keys keep the cyberpunk aesthetics and font style of Ghost in the Shell, but they also integrate smaller details like transparent arrow keys with wiring art over them. Motoko Kusanagi, the main character of the series, is represented on the Enter and Shift keys with transparent art that is highlighted with the keyboard’s backlights. It’s not just an aesthetic choice; the theming weaves through everything. Every physical side of the keyboard is stylized with cut-out beveling that gives it a distinct look. On the underbelly is a beautiful cut stencil of the iconic image of Motoko Kusanagi attached to wires. For style alone, it has jumped to my everyday driver.

But looks aren’t all this keyboard has to offer. The keys are lightning-fast, with quick response times, and have never stuttered or lagged while connected to my MacBook Pro. That is always my first question when reviewing something tech-related: does it work? I can say resoundingly, yes, this works like a charm. It is tall enough that I haven’t needed a third-party riser to make it comfortable to type on. The IQUNIX EV63’s design alone makes long writing sessions comfortable, without the fatigue other keyboards can cause.
I’m not sure anyone else judges a keyboard by its weight. I need a keyboard that takes a little bit of effort to lift off the desk. I don’t want something flimsy and thin because it ends up sliding or moving in a way that annoys me. The IQUNIX is the perfect weight; I never have to worry about it sliding on my desk mat because its weight gives it a physical presence. In my opinion, a hefty keyboard feels luxurious, and I am not afraid to clack away on it all day because it’s built tough.

While I am not a computer gamer, I can see why the IQUNIX is a favorite amongst gamers. It’s also worth noting that the keyboard’s firmware is continuously updated to add new features. For example, the IQUNIX EV63 firmware was recently updated to support controller emulation, so instead of connecting a controller to your system, you can bind keys directly to the keyboard. It shows that they continue to support the keyboard even after it launched.
I have had the IQUNIX EV63 Ghost in the Shell edition for about two months now, and it’s instantly become my go-to keyboard. It has the right weight and height to make long writing sessions a breeze while still having some of the best looks of a keyboard I have ever seen. It has instantly become an integral part of my desk setup, and I am proud to show it off whenever I get the chance. It is worth picking one up if you are in the market for a new keyboard for gaming or for everyday computer tasks.
