Heavys H1H Headphones Review

I haven’t felt fully immersed in a video game in some time. It’s been so long that I couldn’t tell you what the last one was since Cyberpunk 2077. I have played many games since then, but nothing has made me want to sink into my couch for a few hours to become a part of another world. That changed when I started working on my review of Heavys H1H headphones. When the box arrived, it included a wired listening plug, Bluetooth, and a wired microphone plug for gaming, which I was not expecting but was a welcome surprise. This lets me use a microphone and connect to my PS5 controller. From the moment I plugged in the headphones until the last possible minute to get a good night’s sleep, I was fully sucked into Ghost of Yotei.

I wasn’t sure how best to review this pair of Heavys H1H, since they were marketed to the metal/heavy music niche. Sure, I have listened to One by Metallica and a lot of Gwar, which sounds incredible, but it didn’t feel like proper testing. I am not a reviewer who is going to start dropping specs on you about a product, even if they are impressive. For me, it’s all about the experience that makes something worthwhile, especially with headphones. I’ve been sort of a snob about headphones for a long time because I want them to not only sound good but also to fit well. I have a bowling-ball-sized head, so finding over-the-ear headphones that fit properly has been a guessing game.

But when I started up one of the games from my backlog, Ghosts of Yotei, with the headphones on, everything clicked for me. The game features a special “Watanabe Mode” created in collaboration with Shinichirō Watanabe, the director of the iconic anime Samurai Champloo. So I have had a constant stream of lo-fi synth beats serenading me as I swing my kitana like an extension of myself. As I sat for hours on end, traveling through Japan, I forgot I was even wearing the Heavys H1H because they became part of the experience. It was a flawless, sharp sound for everything happening in the game, but the headphones were so comfortable that I forgot they were even there.

Even now, as I write this review after a long day at work, I still have my H1H Heavy headphones on. They have almost melded with my head because I just cannot get away from how good they feel when I am listening to something. The experience of these headphones is unmatched by any pair I have worn before, especially in terms of comfort. Of course, the sound is incredible and crisp, even at full volume.

They are quite large, but they have never felt bulky. They come with a really nice carrying case, so you can fold the whole unit into it. They would fit easily in a backpack for travel. I haven’t had an issue with their size yet.

For me, though, it’s about the experience of wearing the Heavys H1Hs. Do they feel good? Can I wear them for hours without feeling that headphone funk? Do they make sound and video games better? Yes, I give all of those questions an overall yes because I have been in love with them from the moment I first booted up the game and everything in between. They have allowed me to sink into whatever task is at hand, whether it’s casual music listening, fighting to stop evil, or just background noise while I work. They are worth every penny.
