Marvel Legends June Fanstream Recap and Reactions
Marvel Legends pulled off an unusual surpise on Monday, launching a surprise Marvel Legends June Fanstream with no notice so show off some of their latest reveals with an exciting mix of comics and MCU. They showed off some really exciting figures, a few let downs, and a few that just left me confused.
I’m joined today by my buddy Austin, better known for his LEGO customs and figure reviews on YouTube and Instagram as hero_of_collectors. Join us as we break down the latest and greatest in Marvel Legends reveals!
If Hot Toys can make figures based on concept art then so can Marvel Legends. These two Deadpool figures will not appeal to everyone, especially since the X-Force version is on a pinned body mold. Not sure if Cavillrine will have wide appeal but any new Wolverine variant will get me. I’m definitely in to buy these three but admittedly I am the target audience for these variant based characters.
As a DP+W hater, I’m pretty much the opposite and these couldn’t appeal to me less, especially with a comic X-Force Deadpool-shaped hole on my shelf. And while I’m not opposed to concept art figures, it feels like there’s plenty of designs actually in the movie they could’ve made first.
I guess this is nice, but I feel like if we’re doing a two-pack based on Thunderbolts* it would make more sense to include Ghost or Bucky, members of the actual Thunderbolts? They look good, although Void being a literal shadow is such a part of the design the black figure just doesn’t quite capture it, although I like the little dot eyes.
I absolutely would have rather taken a Ghost and Bucky pack but I’m sure they will be on the way given their upcoming Avengers Doomsday appearance. I do want this but the legs on Val and color choice for the Void doesn’t convince me to preorder.
Another Final Swing Spider-Man, but with a new head! Honestly it is not for me and I’m not too sure it’s a good move to release this around the Brand New Day Spider-Man figure. On the other hand this Green Goblin is amazing. I recently made a list of my 25 most wanted media based Marvel Legends and this Norman Osborn made that list. The pack out of accessories is everything I wanted and more.
The improved final swing suit does make me hesitant to buy a Brand New Day Spider-Man before we get a better one a year or two down the line, but Green Goblin is also one of my most wanted figures and I fully agree it’s pretty much perfect.
Gobby and I, we’re gonna have a hell of a time!
That’s concerning…
Now THIS is what I was hoping for when they revealed the first Brand New Day figures. Such a big improvement over the last classic Scorpion and that Boomerang design is just a delight, even if I would’ve loved a more modern update too.
As someone who has spent hours flipping through Marvel Character Encyclopedias seeing the costume Boomerang had for his bio picture this hit me in nostalgia I wasn’t aware I had. Then I see the appeal of Scorpion but I’m still happy with the figure I have.
Two releases that make sense. Doom on that card was inevitable and cool that they updated the limbs to pinless, but that means every classic Iron Man figure is bound for a pinless rerelease now. Doc Samson is exactly what I was expecting and wanting, although much of the online discussion seems to see him as too small.
Yeah, while both are solid figures, not a lot of excitement in them, especially with how long the two-pack version of that Doom pegwarmed for. Samson is a good figure but just firmly not my thing but I’m sure pretty essential for the Hulk fans out there.
I love Doug Ramsey, so I can’t help but feel a little disappointed here. Nice that it will match the new Magik’s uniform (but not Sunspot), but some more Warlock focused accessories instead of a sword from a good 40 years after this costume debuted would’ve been an improvement, and I just don’t like the head. Beast is another miss, I get that they’re going for the ‘97 style but why is he so…smooth. The best 97 figures fit in fine on a comic shelf, this one does not.
I agree that the head on Cypher just isn’t quite right. Currently reading classic New Mutants I have a clear idea of what Doug should look like and this missed the mark. I would have taken a Doug merged with Warlock head over that sword. Beast is perfect for ‘97 collectors but I only buy ‘97 figures that I can add to my comic collection.
Initially I would have said these were from the same figure but Dan made a point to say they are for two separate figures. The present I am pretty sure is from the rumored Holiday Spider-Man. Then the magazine my only guess is for a Mini-Comics release of Mary Jane.
I think you’re spot on there, although I’d maybe guess the Mary Jane might specifically be her as Venom, they’re a lot more punctual with Spider-designs than anything else (still waiting on my 6160 figures Hasbro…) so I think it’s due, just as she switches up her costume.
Other figures waiting announcement!
