Marvel Legends Secret Wars Falcon Review

Classic iconic costumes. We all love them. Though sometimes we have to wait a while to get them. I’ve been fine with the Falcon Marvel Legends figure that I have, but deep down this costume was needed. So finally it’s here and on the Secret Wars retro card too. So does this new figure satisfy my need for this costume, and would it replace the previous Legends Falcons as the definitive Sam Wilson?

This figure is reusing the previous Falcon body mold except pinless this time around. So it has the standard range of articulation you come to expect with Legends like: disk hinge at the neck, butterfly joints, double jointed limbs, thigh swivel, calf swivel, and ankle pivot, although the feet, calves, and head are new for this release. Because it is reused, the way the wings attach is through ports on the back of the bicep and forearms. I could see some people wanting the costume to be sculpted on the torso, but I think just painting it on works. Especially since we still get the deep V that’s so iconic to this costume.

The wings this time around are one piece per arm, opposed to previous ones which are two pieces per arm. What this means is that once you plug in the wings you can’t bend the elbows without making it look unnatural. This doesn’t make it impossible to pose him, but it is difficult at times. You can also just leave the wings off if you are needing to, but it is part of his character design so it’s a double edged sword depending on what you’re trying to do.

For a single carded figure, Falcon comes with a good amount of accessories. He has a set of fists, a set of flat hands, a pair of folded wings, a pair of extended wings, a Secret Wars shield, and Redwing the falcon. I only have one complaint and it’s regarding Redwing. The red clip to hold him in place is fine but the coloring on Redwing himself is wrong. Why is he grey and not red?

For comparisons I have the only Sam Wilson comic figures I own. To the left is the Joe Fixit BAF wave figure, which is actually based on the design from the Avengers Assemble cartoon. Then to the right is the deluxe Captain America version of Sam. There was a grey retro card version of Falcon that came out a few years ago but I never got that figure as I was waiting for this particular costume.

Overall I find that Falcon is one of the stronger releases for this wave but he isn’t without odd decisions with his execution. The wings not allowing arm bend is something I adapted to, but Redwing not actually being red is rather frustrating. That being said I still enjoy this figure as it fills the slot of a classic Falcon for my Avengers collection.
