Insta360 Mic Pro Review: Sound with Flair

I have been writing, podcasting, and doing what I do for over 7 years now, and I have finally started to branch out into making videos. I have always been afraid of video content, to be frank with you. The world of video content is extremely intimidating and outright overwhelming because of all the factors involved. When I first started making videos, I knew I had to figure out my sound situation fast because that is one thing I have experience in from the podcast. Luckily enough, Insta360 was kind enough to send over an Insta360 Mic Pro for review. I have been using the microphone to make a lot of my videos and it has been a game changer. With its ease of use after a small hiccup, I have already been able to step up my video creation. The sound is crystal clear after a few weeks of just recording raw from a phone.

When I first got the Insta360 Mic Pro, I couldn’t get it to work for a week. I racked my brain for every reason it would not work and came up short. I tried it on another phone I had, tried different apps, and did everything my mind could think of to get it to work. My fiancé stepped in, plugged in the transmitter, turned on the microphone, and got it working. Turns out I was overcomplicating it all by trying to record with the Insta360 app instead of just my native iPhone video app. It was my only hiccup in my entire time using the microphone, which is a blessing.

Something that really caught my eye about the Insta360 Mic Pro was the display. While most microphones are solid-color and have no bells or whistles, the Mic Pro is different. There is a color screen built into the front of the microphone that can display whatever you want to throw on there through the app. That means you can put your brand logo directly on your microphone if you want, so the image appears in your video. It comes with a number of preloaded backgrounds, to which I chose the winky face. There is something that just makes this microphone bubble with personality when you can actually customize it to fit your personality.

The sound quality is incredible, and I could instantly tell the difference between recording with my phone and using the microphone itself. It’s an affordable mic ($199.99), which always makes you wonder if the sound will keep up, but the Insta 360 Mic Pro absolutely has the bang for the buck. The easy-to-attach microphone can be clipped on or, my preferred method, attached with magnets. I wear a lot of shirts with pockets, so it was easy to just toss the magnet into a pocket to attach the mic to my shirt. I love that I wasn’t fussing around with it, so when I was ready to record, I just popped it on and was out of the gates. The microphone can also be used with a camera, not just a phone, but for my review I only used it with my iPhone. There was never any hassle to getting things moving after my initial missteps, which made it the most helpful tool so far in my video arsenal.

If you are looking to start making videos and need a microphone, I would highly recommend the Insta 360 Mic Pro. There is something so eye-catching about the screen display that it makes you want to stop scrolling when you are going through videos on your feed. It’s a statement piece rather than just something dangling from your shirt. I always worried about looking silly with a microphone strapped to my chest, but this one adds a layer of personality that you can focus in on while still delivering incredible 360 sound. It has built-in memory space to record audio that you can transfer over to a computer. So whether you’re recording sound live or as a separate track to layer over the video later, the Insta 360 Mic Pro has you covered. It’s an affordable investment I suggest anyone who makes videos check out.
