DC Pride 2022: Return of Pride Anthology and New Comics

DC Comic announces its plans for Pride 2022 celebrations; including new comics and the return of the DC Pride Anthology.

DC Comics has today announced plans for its Pride 2022 celebrations. The acclaimed DC Pride Anthology will be returning in June with DC Pride 2022 to spotlight LGBTQIA+ fan-favorite characters by a host of diverse talent, from Alysia Yeoh and Batgirl by Jadzia Axelrod and Lynne Yoshii, to Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy by Dani Fernandez and Zoe Thorogood, to The Ray by Greg Lockard and Giulio Macaione, and many, many more.

DC Pride 2022 will also be forwarded by an introduction from Nicole Maines; activist, actress, and real-life superhero. With a main cover from Phil Jimenez and Arif Prianto, variant covers from Joshua “Sway” Swaby and Jen Bartel, pinups by P. Craig Russell, J.J. Kirby, and more, there is plenty to look forward to in this 100+ page celebration of LGBTQIA+ talent.

But that’s not all of DC’s Pride celebrations; launching in June and continuing throughout the year are a variety of ongoing comics, limited series, one-shots, and graphic novels spotlighting LGBTQIA+ characters.

These include Nubia: Queen of the Amazons, a new miniseries by Stephanie Williams, Alitha Martinez, and Mark Morales following on from the first miniseries featuring Nubia. G. Willow Wilson and Marcio Takara will be launching Poison Ivy a  self-titled ongoing series, seeing Ivy leaving Gotham to complete her greatest work.

Meghan Fitzmartin, Belén Ortega, and Alberto Jimenez Alburquerque return to Tim Drake following their acclaimed work with the Robin in Batman: Urban Legends for DC Pride: Tim Drake Special, a one-shot starring the boy wonder teaming up with his former Young Justice teammates and the Batgirls. Check out our interview with Meghan from last year to find out her thoughts on taking Tim Drake through his journey of self-discovery.

Kid Quick and the young heroes of Earth-11 will star in Multiversity: Teen Justice, a six-issue miniseries by Ivan Cohen, Danny Lore, Marco Failla, and Enrica Eren Angiolini which will see the secrets of Earth-11’s newest heroes and villains unfold in DC’s most exciting new team title.

Launching ahead of DC’s Pride celebrations on May 17, Galaxy: The Prettiest Star is a young adult graphic novel about gender identity, romance, and shining as bright as the stars from writer Jadzia Axelrod and artist Jess Taylor. If you can’t wait to meet the characters of Galaxy: The Prettiest Star, a free preview will be released as part of Free Comic Book Day on May 7.

There’s plenty more to be excited about from DC’s Pride celebrations, with further announcements to follow between now and June, but make sure to stay tuned to GateCrashers for a special podcast episode where we sit down with Ivan Cohen and Danny Lore to discuss their work on Multiversity: Teen Justice.

And if you missed it, we covered last year’s DC Pride anthology in our own unique way with an in-universe news report on the events taking place within the book. Check it out here. Also as part of our DC Pride celebrations, we did character spotlights for various LGBTQIA+ heroes from across the DC universe. These included Renee Montoya, Green Lantern Alan Scott, and the soon-to-be lead of Multiversity: Teen Justice, Kid Quick.
