Marvel Legends SDCC 2026 Recap and Reactions

Marvel Legends showed off a wide range for SDCC this year, including the debut of the first wave of Avengers: Doomsday figures, a new addition to the Maximum line, and much more! With a few great designs and some baffling choices, lets take a look at just what they revealed!

I’m joined once again by my buddy Austin, better known for his LEGO customs and figure reviews on YouTube and Instagram as hero_of_collectors. Join us as we break down the latest and greatest in Marvel Legends reveals!

Avengers The Crossing: Vision & Scarlet Witch
Adam

These are so close to the modern designs it’s a little frustrating, why not just make those instead? Fun to see them get creative on the effects and capes though, although without an alt cape it really limits the potential of that Vision figure.

Austin

I have no love or nostalgia for The Crossing but I am more than happy to build out different Avengers teams. Although that cape on Vision killed any excitement for me. I’m not even mad at the attempt cause it looks just like the cover art, but just also include a more normal cape so I can pose or display Vision without knocking over all other figures around.

Maximum Series: Symbiote Spider-Man
Adam

Undeniably a great figure, and the posing looks incredible, and like the first Maximum Spider-Man, a clear improvement over others. But I have to question why we’re doing another Spider-Man figure already? Surely with so many Marvel characters we don’t need to double up already, no matter how iconic Spider-Man is. My only hope is the fact that this mold is pretty generic means we can get some other heroes on it without the maximum mark-up.

Austin

Totally get the argument, and I can’t deny the amount of black suit/Symbiote Spider-Man figures we have gotten lately, but this was always coming early. Spider-Man sells, it’s a brand new mold, there are less paint hits on this costume, and again with emphasis, Spider-Man sells. The Legends team can throw so many curve balls but predicting Spider-Man repaints or inclusions in waves is a lay up. I am absolutely in on this as I skipped both Secret Wars Spider-Man figures expecting this to happen. I too am intrigued to see what other characters they will put on this body mold. It’s hard to think of non-Spider characters but my first ideas are: Iron Fist, Nightcrawler, and Noh-Varr aka Marvel Boy.

Mole Man and the Moloids
Austin

Probably my favorite of the initial reveals. Mole Man has been a high fan request and I am very happy to see him done this well. Brand new body with extra heads and semi poseable Moloids is more than I expected from the team.

Adam

Not a Mole Man guy at all but this is pretty cool, especially the Moloids. I just wish they had a leg joint too, especially when the arms have elbows. Not essential but would’ve really elevated it.

Magic the Gathering: Black Panther and Captain America
Adam

I’m still not sure how to feel about these Magic the Gathering figures. No interest in the card itself, but the actual offering tends to be really good, and the level of accessories you’d want with a regular release. Unfortunately they come with a £15 markup. Odd choices for figures too, this Black Panther is fantastic, but feels pretty similar to the classic one we got a few years ago in the Wakanda Forever wave. I would’ve loved to see his newer costume maybe. It’s nice to see a newer design in this Avengers: Twilight Captain America, but it feels quite niche compared to other options.

Austin

The whole Magic collaboration is definitely a pickle as I agree the figures and accessories are fantastic, but I too have no interest in the card they come with. I agree that the current look for Black Panther would have been a more cool and unique release for this line. I think part of the restrictions is what costume Magic wants on the card to accompany the figure. I really enjoy Avengers: Twilight (I’m due to reread it) so this Captain America really speaks to me. I will say that the unmasked headsculpt isn’t as old and worn down looking as the comic art depicts.

Magic the Gathering: Doom 2099 and Malice
Austin

I have not been a part of the Malice boom that has happened recently, and I have not read the original comic context so I don’t have a direct draw to her. Although I have seen lots of fans happy for her, and so I will watch and enjoy other fan’s enjoyment. Doom 2099 looks fantastic and I love all the included effect pieces.

Adam

Two easy skips for me, although Doom 2099 certainly looks pretty good if lacking a few effect pieces, those lightning ones have never been my favourite if it’s the same style that came with Punk Storm etc years ago. Malice is a great take on the costume, the red parts tone it down a little while still capturing the essence of the look. Both not for me, but solid entries.

Gamerverse: Spiral And Iron Man
Adam

An easy miss for me, but that Spiral remains one of the best figures Marvel Legends have ever done so I’m glad to see it being made available again. While I’m not an Iron Man guy, my friends who are are buzzing about the improvements on this one, which are plain to see. It’s a pity how much the Gamerverse line seems to be being used to pair much wanted figures and vague repaints though.

Austin

Yeah the last half of the panel reveals were just not for me. The Gamerverse, now called Marvel Games line, is one I only buy if they fit in my comic collection or a video game I have a connection with. This two pack does not fit that criteria. I do really like the new shield and blast effects for Iron Man, would love to see those packed somewhere else in the future.

Gamerverse: Wolverine & Psylocke and Gargantos
Austin

The Wolverine fan boy in me should want every repaint of him, right? Sadly, this is not the case. Player 2 variants are cool for the MvC fans but I am not among those. Something to note though is the inclusion of new bone claws with the Wolverine. I think that is an indicator of a future release of savage 90s Wolverine on this body mold.

Adam

I really hate the concept of P2 repaints, it just feels like such a waste in a line that is always lacking something. I get wanting extra use out of the Gargantos mold, but they’re going to do plenty of Wolverines and that Psylocke body has a million uses outside of doing the same figure but slightly off. It appeals to such a small window of adult fan, I can’t see these being successful.

Gamerverse: Sentinel
Adam

The Sentinels keep getting cheaper but they also keep getting less interesting to me. It’s a cool design and the effects are a lot of fun, but as someone with no real MvC2 nostalgia it’s an easy skip. Pretty good price for what it is though.

Austin

I agree that this release is solid and has an appeal to a certain audience but again that audience is not me. Something to note about the price is apparently Hasbro may have messed up the conversion on the price for Europe as it’s $50 more than what Americans will pay once you convert it.

Elsa Bloodstone, Earth X: Captain America, Acroyear
Austin

These three were shown off saying that they’re not ready to show us how they are packed yet. Elsa is nice to see released again since I didn’t have an opportunity to buy the A-Force box set she was in previously. Earth X Cap looks cool but I have not read that story to give me a draw to want him. Then I know very little about the Micronauts and Acroyear to have any desire for that figure. I’m now zero for four of the Jessie Falcon requested figures.

Adam

Agreed on Elsa, nice to see her finally get a wide release although that single jointed elbow feels a little out of date now. The other 2 are complete unknowns to me, and while the designs are cool, I really have no interest. Even making Micronauts figures feels like a bit of a waste of the line when there’s so many actually relevant characters and costumes they could make instead.

Tease
Adam

I want to say maybe a Mister Fantastic neck? But that join at the end is very strange, so I’m not sure. My heart wants to say a Cameron Hodge wire/tentacle but that seems unlikely.

Austin

I definitely am hoping for it to be Mr. Fantastic as I want a figure of him that isn’t just stretchy arms. Although if it’s not that I have no idea what else that piece could be used for.

DOOMSDAY: Magneto, Cyclops and Gambit
Austin

Magneto being an exclusive to Amazon granted him a soft goods cape and I kinda love that. I’m not someone demanding soft goods on Legends but I like it when it’s used well. Magneto looks really good and it makes me more excited to see what he will do in the movie. Then Cyclops and Gambit were both ones I was hoping for in this wave and I don’t have any serious complaints, I would have of course loved some alternate heads but I’m okay with those not being included cause we got ways to display their powers. All three of these are pre-orders for me.

Adam

Love seeing some more soft goods in the line and that likeness for McKellan is great, but as always some more accessories would be good. Cyclops is pretty great, and the only one of the line I’m likely to actually get, the swappable visor instead of a head is pretty cool. Gambit is a real surprise, the card effects are fantastic and really level it up.

DOOMSDAY: The Thing, Human Torch and Invisible Woman
Adam

The Invisible Sue is a pretty neat idea, and a good way to do something pretty unique and a solid Vanessa Kirby likeness too. I could see some good poses for that Human Torch but it’s pretty limited with that half and half flamed-on style, and it doesn’t resemble Joseph Quinn in the slightest. With the new jacket I think a regular style with the fire accessories might have been better. The Thing is neat, and actually accurate to First Steps with his jumper on and the bearded face. Definitely a must get for any fans of that movie, but not for me at all.

Austin

The new attempt at depicting an invisible effect on Sue looks really fun and I agree has a great likeness that shines even with the lack of color. I was completely satisfied with the Johnny figure until that headsculpt. Unlike many other heads I can see somewhat of a likeness if I squint, this is just a whole different person. The Thing is a great update and I’m glad they included the beard head so I can put that on the previous figure even if it’s not accurate. I’m in on these but may not buy right away.

DOOMSDAY: Mr Fantastic and Doctor Doom
Austin

Mr. Fantastic is just fine for me. I wish we got some new stretchy effects but the HERBIE makes this more desirable. Doom looks great and it helps that I’m warming up more to the design now that we are getting to see him more officially. I would have liked some energy effects like I have seen with the Hot Toys release of Doom. I’ll pre order Doom and get Reed at some point but won’t rush at release.

Adam

The jackets just scream “we needed new toys” so this Reed would be a simple skip but you’re right about HERBIE, I really want to get that lil guy. I agree on Doom too, a pretty good figure that really needs some more effects to take it a little further.

DOOMSDAY: Shang-Chi, Captain America, Thor
Adam

That Ten Rings effect piece is insanely cool, one of the coolest they’ve ever done. Even with the costume disappointingly similar to his first movie one, this is one of my favourite figures in the wave and a huge improvement on the old figure for Shang-Chi. Sam on the other hand is maybe one of the worst figures I’ve ever seen, it’s just a repackage of the Brave New World figure minus the wings and with a (pretty good) Anthony Mackie head. What a waste. Thor has awful likenesses which really kills any love for that figure, surely they should have Hemsworth of all people down by now.

Austin

The Sam Captain America is the reason I’m happy this isn’t a Build-a-Figure wave cause I absolutely do not need that suit again in figure form. I don’t even have the last one on my main MCU display as I prefer the Falcon & the Winter Soldier Captain America costume. Thor looks good until you see his face. I thought Legends had Chris’s likeness down with the last few MCU Thor releases but these miss the mark. Although I may end up buying two of these as this fixes a problem I had when making a custom MCU Thor. Shang-Chi is how to make reuse work well. I agree that the Ten Rings are incredibly cool accessories and I like that we have powered and relaxed Rings for display options.
