Another Sharkley Adventure – Harley Quinn S3 Ep. 7 Breakdown

And now, King Shark…

Welcome back to another breakdown of Harley Quinn Season 3! Episode Seven, “Another Sharkley Adventure”, begins with Ivy still searching for Frank in the Green, but she becomes too weak to help Harley kidnap Bruce Wayne at the upcoming Gala. Harley insists she can go it alone, despite Ivy and Selina pointing out she’s highly co-dependent. Still, no better than to trust her going solo to gain some independence. We know she is always more than capable, but it’s hard to deny she can be indecisive on what exactly it is she wants at times.

This episode gives Batgirl and Harley a chance to get closer, even though Harley is hesitant to allow herself to be friends. Ivy states there is no need for her to be on the defensive as she understands Harley has a soft spot for many people. Harley will always see the good in them. She is still playing both sides figuring it all out, and the show does a great job depicting it. It’s one of my favorite things about Harley. She could be saving you during the day but kidnap your loved ones at night. We never know how long she will behave before she snaps and smashes someone’s skull in. She manages to save Batgirl and stop Mad Hatter – with blunt brutal force, but we would have Harley do it no other way.

We see Harley struggle to come to terms with the possibility of being more good than bad. Firstly, by convincing Jervis she is more like him than Batgirl. Then again, as she’s talking to herself as Harleen. She was so focused on completing the mission for Ivy, that she forgot she could potentially do both. Her psychiatry comes into play as we’ve seen in past seasons leading her to do the right thing; an ideal balance for an anti-hero. Little developments are happening between the lines. Harley is testing the grounds, mapping out her emotions to find a conclusion, will she be a goodie or a baddie? Or will she find a constant happy medium?

Despite Bruce and Selina leaving it on a flat note from their musical therapy session, she still says his name in his sleep – as Harley pointed out. Always so observant yet again, her past profession is coming in useful. Also, very useful knowing Bruce is vulnerable right now, making him an easy target. Harley may seem distracted and easily lead, but she always pays attention to the correct details.

King Shark’s side story character development was an absolute delight to watch; it begins as an adorable family reunion that ends with sibling cannibalism. King Shark’s father has died and decides to pass the kingdom down to his younger brother, unbeknownst to him that Prince Shark intends to sell the kingdom. I mean, King Shark asked nicely at first. Ron Funches’ delivery has always been excellent every season. Sign me up for more underwater episodes. Harley’s team all receive some limelight this season, extending the universe and giving us more substance to work with. There is something for everybody here!

Now that Bruce Wayne is captured; Harley and Ivy will finally be able to get an accurate location on Frank and bring him home. It also seems like Ivy is getting a handle on the Green, looking like a true Goddess. I am beyond excited to break down next week’s episode, as it is a real treat! Oh, and one more thing; when someone texts “LOL. Period.” The conversation is over!
