We are now one step closer to TMNT #150. The epic arc to end Sophie Campbell’s run continues with the super Turtle team of Vincenzo Federici on art, Ronda Pattison on colors, and Shawn Lee on letters. Every single person is firing on all cylinders and probably feeling a bit emotional about every motion toward #150. I know I am.
Picking up immediately from #147, in the future Donnie, Bob, and Venus have linked up with cyborg Jennika who happens to be a struggling private eye. Can we please have a whole series like that? Bob confesses to having messed with the machinery in the woods which caused this whole jaunt through the future. It’s here I can feel the rush toward the ending because I feel like I barely know Bob and that’s really not the case with most of the characters in this series. I want to know him better and I’m a little sad we don’t get to sit with his guilt and other emotions more.
My favorite part of the issue was Mikey’s big intro, I cheered and then saw that Lita was doing the same. I adore these types of moments that are a staple of this run, just pure joy on the page. It’s really special.
After the incredible previous issue, I was prepared for more emotional punches but that wasn’t exactly the case here. It’s a more propulsive issue that picks up the breadcrumbs and runs them further along which doesn’t make it a bad issue. And really, I think I needed the break before we inevitably go hard for the last two issues.
Oh no. It’s only two issues. It’s way more real having just put it to words like that.
If you’re not already along for this ride, this isn’t the issue that will change your mind and I don’t know that I can change your mind at this point. This issue is building towards an epic conclusion not only for the arc but for the whole run both in terms of the previous 50 issues and the entirety of IDW’s run. A lot of folks have worked on this and they should all be proud of the work they’ve done. It’s truly a masterpiece and issue 148 is a strand in this decade long tapestry.
I cannot wait to see the next two issues but also what comes after.
